Listening overview
Using the internet for listening purposes
It's a well-known fact that learning the language, while being 'at the spot', meaning being exposed to the language 24 hours a day, simply is the best situation possible. Unfortunately, not all second language learners will be in this situation so they will have to more or less simulate this situation.
Thanks to Internet we can!
We can choose:
- to watch video's,
- download films,
- listen to (news) radio
- using podcasts, mp3's,
with or without the text-transcription. We can even join others on the net –real-time or not– to do any language related activity in social networks.
A problem
The problem really is not so much to find the right resources, websites, tools or applications: the problem is how to prevent yourself from being ducked by these huge waves of growing resources, references and never ending technological changes.
I made some choices
I chose for a way to immerse yourself in the new language at the most effective, yet pleasant, way. I chose for the 'listening while reading' activity. To get you started I gathered some speeches and songtexts and put them at the site to enable you to comfortably listen to quality sound while you read the speech. I did my best to make it as attractive as possible.
At the same time giving you an option to translate any word from the text you're listening to: just doubleclick any word to have it explained and translated.
I added a third option which is more about just listening: I put some audiobooks on a page.
Being creative
But, being a teacher, this site will offer also plenty of information about how to create all this yourself.
Making your own learning material is one of the basic principles of this site.
I made it easy for you by just telling you how to create this material, showing you what tools to use and where to go to find all this: thus saving you a lot of time.
Use the navigation menu's to find all this:
- topmenu Listening, Vocabulary, Grammar and Divers
- submenu of these head items on the right side o/t page
