Statistics

CBS' StatLine: Sctatistics of the Netherlands
Statistics of the Netherlands from the leading Central Buro of Statistics. Neatly arranged and easy accessable statistics about all you want to know. All results can be printed out quite easily.
From the welcome page:
"Statline is the electronic databank of Statistics Netherlands. It contains statistical information on many social and economic subjects in the form of tables and graphs. All the information in StatLine may be consulted, printed and downloaded free of charge. In addition to the search function with key words (Hypersearch) you can use the Webselector to select a publication from StatLine."
[I noticed though, that not all browsers displayed the site identical and some browsers even crashed (Explorer) or gave Java errors (Safari). I had the best results with Netscape.]
Short description o.t. Netherlands and Belgium

CIA. The World Factbook: the Netherlands / Belgium
Up-to-date facts about the Netherlands: government, geography, population, politics, economy, transportation, military and transnational issues. Option to compare with other countries. Printable. Maps added.[this link opens the Netherlands page; the Belgium page - as any other country- can be opened from here] A very nicely designed alternative is the BBC Country-profile site: personally I prefer this one due to some more options and external links and design.

Perspicuous, highly enlightning text supported by good maps. Best site to start with if you want a good overview . At this moment Under Construction

World History at KMLA:

I have found the best -zoomable- quality maps of high detail at this wonderful, professional site. About 40 maps from the late 17th-,the 18th- and 19th century Netherlands and Belgium can be found here when 'searching' for 'netherlands'. I you take the time to explore the site you will find out all tricks the site has in store to view the maps.

Nederland zoals het was. De WoonOmgeving
A really fantastic interactive, highly zoomable site to find all Dutch municipalities, including the municipalities as they were in 1832.
BUT
... it's all in Dutch, and, it has tons of options I even don't know yet. I list the site anyway because of it's immense value for the lovers of topography and genealogist, trying to find the street/house or meadow of their Dutch ancestor. [For some basic words, used on this site click here]
Blaeu Atlas of the UCLA library
Wonderful, conveniently arranged, site with large historical maps of  Europe among which you can find lots of maps of the Dutch and Belgian provinces/regions. All these maps are extremely well detailed and genealogist searching the birthplace of their ancestors will find here any small village, hamlet they're looking for easily. The maps date from 1635 and later.

Dialects and regional languages in the Netherlands, Luxembourg & Belgium
Site-description
Language in the Netherlands
Very nice and clean designed site presenting a good overview concerning the five regional languages, Limburgish, Low Saxon, Zeelandish, Frisian and Brabantish, including lingual maps. Most maps are in Dutch but sometimes quite self-explanatory
Flash Map of Low Saxon dialects in the Netherlands
Extremely detailed map of the Low Saxon area of the Netherlands, presenting all dialects of this area. To view and scroll through this map you do need to have Flash Player plugin installed.
Lowland Talk
This site is diving deep into all the 'Lowland' languages [see definition, as presented on the site, below] and dialects.
"Lowlands languages" are those Germanic languages that developed in the “Lowlands": the low-lying areas adjacent to the North Sea and the Baltic Sea. These are primarily Dutch, Zeelandic (Zeeuws, West Flemish), Frisian, Limburgish and Low Saxon (Low German). Also included are those languages that descended from autochtonous Lowlands languages and are used elsewhere; for example, Afrikaans, Lowlands-based emigrant languages, pidgins and creoles, and also English and Scots.
Flash Map of the Lowlands area
Fantastic zoomable map of the Lowlands area. To view and scroll through this map you do need to have Flash Player plugin installed.

GenLias

Genealogical Search Program of the State Archives (National Archive/ARA) You will need to register but all services are free. Civil- and Church Records can be searched in an easy way.
Note: it does happen quite regularly that the site is down or not reachable due to maintenance or overload. Yet I list the site here for it's so reliable: ever so often results I found with GenLias did conflict considerably with the quite some sources I received from my Latter Day Fri
ends....
