Test your proficiency!

To benefit from this site you'll need to have a good basic understanding of English. In order to find out "where you stand"- elementary, pre- or upper intermediate- you could test yourself at the web.

There are many ways and methods to test your command, your knowledge of English. On the web, using Google, you will find plenty of sites offering you the possibility to test yourself.
Just be critical though: look what they’re testing. Many sites really focus on grammar and not on your ability to understand or speak the language. Some sites use really questionable ways to test, asking silly, tricky questions.
If you choose to use a test in order to find out your level, your abilities, please take the results with a lot of scepticism.
I had an 8 year training of English, offered by a solid Dutch school system, I live abroad and speak English daily. Many Americans I correspond with think that English is my native language, but even so, one of the tests told me that my level was ‘pre-intermediate’… while another test gave me the qualification of "proficient"info
Anyway, apart from all these considerations, I’d like to list a few test-sites for you to try, because it can be a rough indicator and…it can be fun! Check them all out, choose 2 or 3 and test yourself with these and put all the results together: the answer will be somewhere in the middle!
Good luck, and: keep smiling!

Learning style tests

For a long time it has been a known thing among teachers to distinguish three major type of students, referred to their learning styles, their different approaches, ways of studying: auditive, visual and kinesthetic.
The first category really learning best by listening, discussing, using sound-devices etc. The visual oriented student will benefit from pictures, schemes, graphics, film, symbols, using markers while reading and so on...while the kinesthetic learner really needs to experience things physically, with all the senses, explore the world actively doing things hands-on.
Of course there are mixes: no one is 100% this or that.
Apart from the 3 basic learning styles we can roughly distinguish 8 intellectual abilitiesinfo button showing 7 mulitple intelligences. Many tests on the web refer to these types of multiple intelligence and offer tests to find out which one(s) is or are dominant.

Below I present a few tests I tried out on myself. Like the tests above about English proficiency, I can advise you to take things not too serious and I would recommend you to perform 2 or 3, put all the results together and draw your conclusions.
