Vocabulary overview
Using the internet to enrich your vocabulary
Beside books, the internet is a wonderful playground where you can really improve your idiomatic skills by working on your vocabulary in whatever language you want. We will focus on English.
Using dictionaries, thesauri and translation tools
There are various ways to choose good dictionaries: it doesn't have to cost you a dime. And, freeware is not equivalent to "less good, less possibilities": by far not!
This site will advise you about some good dictionaries as well as about a tremendously great thesaurus& dictionary program anyone should install to make working with English a joy.
The same goes for translation services and translation tools. There are some great ones and I strongly advice you to visit the "dictionaries, thesauri, translation"-page at this site before you start exploring it further
Discipline and joy of learning
It can be fun, but, there's a certain need for discipline.
In order to really progress you will have to train daily: dependent on your goals at least 30-40 minutes.
But, make the training fun, make it effective and...tailor it to your needs! This is why I strongly advise to gather, search and create your own vocabulary, harvesting it from anywhere instead of buying an (expensive) commercial package. This site has chosen to adopt the flashcard-system to work on your vocabulary-idiom needs in a productive and pleasant way.
Being creative
But, being a teacher, this site will offer also plenty of information and tips about how to create your own vocabulary "database".
Making your own learning material is one of the basic principles of this site. To do it yourself is an absolute fruitful learning experience –especially in this case of learning new words and phrases.
I made it easy for you by just telling you how to create this material, showing you what tools to use and where to go to find all this: thus saving you a lot of time.
Use the navigation menu's to find all this:
- topmenu Listening, Vocabulary, Grammar and Divers
- submenu of these head items on the right side o/t page
