Makkum

Title: Makkum, Turfmarkt along the Kleine Zijlroede
Caption: Makkum, Turfmarkt [prov. of Friesland] Makkum, Turfmarkt (Peat-market) along the Kleine Zijlroede. Unlike Stavoren and Hindeloopen not a trade-port but a place of fishermen. Makkum is a 'Vlecke': not a village, but a town without proper town-rights. Thus Makkum is not part of the Eleven Frisian Towns. The worldfamous 'Makkumer Aardewerk (Earthenware)' is originating from here: the 'Royal Makkum Earthenware and Tile factory Tichelaar' is situated at this Turfmarket but just not visible at this picture.
