Balk-raadhuis

Title: Balk, raadhuis
Caption: Balk [prov.of Friesland] Village, situated at the river Luts, just south of the Slotermeer. Prosperous in the 18th century cause of butter- and cattle trade. The village must have been rich before, since it was lootet by Spanish soldiers from Groningen in 1585. The 1615 townhall and other houses along the Luts river show the wealth of this picturesque village in southern Friesland. A copy of this townhall can also be found in 'Holland Village', Nagasaki, Japan. Photo by Sijbren Sijtsma, September 1999. Exa IIb,Domiplan 2.8/50 [1/125 - f 8]
