Title: Leeuwarden, Waag
Caption: Leeuwarden [prov. of Friesland] De Waag [Weigh-house] at the Nieuwstad at Leeuwarden, built between 1596-1598. By then, replacing an even older Weigh-house. At the ground-floor butter and salt was weighed and on the upper-floor, the civil guard and rattlers resided from 1610-1841. From 1643 this floor also was in use as exchange for the merchants. In the 19th century traders and exchange removed to the 'Beurs' the Exchange (see previous picture). Photo by Sijbren Sijtsma, March 2002. Praktica MTL 5B, Pentacon auto 1.8/50 [1/125 - f 8]
