Title: Leeuwarden, Oude Stadsbegraafplaats
Caption: Leeuwarden [prov. of Friesland] Oude Stadsbegraafplaats (Old Town-Cemetery). In 1827, King Willem I made it mandatory for all municipalities with more than 1000 inhabitants, to build a cemetery outside the town area. In 1830 the cemetery was designed and laid out by the famous garden-architect Lucas Pieter Broodbaard. In his original plan Roodbaard wanted a park where people could walk and recreate. This park first was laid out though in 1904 (See next picture) Photo by Sijbren Sijtsma, January 2002. Zenit-122 with Helios-44-2  (2/58) [1/250 - f11]
